The Prosperous Calhoun Gold Mines of Gordon County #genealogy #gawills #gaestates #gamarriages

The Calhoun Gold Mining Operation
The 1832 Gold Lottery brought many persons into North Georgia panning for gold.  At the time of the lottery, there was no Gordon county, however after the Calhoun family came from South Carolina and found gold, all of that changed. Calhoun, Georgia quickly became a prosperous community built up by those panning for gold.  This particular vein lasted many years, well into 1900s.  However, the family sold the mines in 1879.
