How Mistakes Affect Finding Ancestors

In reading old faded census records, one must be aware of how fading and moisture damages the paper.  When is the writing too faded to determine that the t's are not crossed?  In other words, when does "ll" represent "tt"?  This is a very common error in census records and other  documents.  I was recently given the chore of locating the marriage of one called "Callie".  Turns out, the census record did not show the t's crossed.  Trace your North Carolina Ancestors
